Senior Series - Sean McNaughton
My high school career here at Hawken has been incredible. Despite being a senior, this wrestling season was my first season. When I signed up I had no idea what I was in for. The amount of dedication required and the patience needed was something I didn't have originally. Eventually though, I found the practices much more enjoyable and began to form bonds with the team and coaches. These people helped me level up physically and mentally. I'm proud that I could form relationships with them and partook in some of their experiences.
One of my most important take aways from this season was how much I was affected around team. My original view of this season was seeing it as more of a chore, but being surrounded by people who love and enjoy the sport, greatly changed my opinions. This team shaped my experience from something I dreaded to something I truly enjoyed doing each day. Despite going to college in the fall and losing contact with my teammates, it doesn't take away from the fact that I had a great time with the sport and with them. They helped me realize that I need to place myself with a group of people that will challenge me in order to grow as an athlete and as a person.
Over all, I couldn't have asked for a better first and last season of wrestling. It was awesome being able to try something brand new and being a part of a team for the first time. I could only hope that others could have a similar experience and enjoy their sport as much as I enjoyed wrestling.
