Field Hockey Season Update - August 31
The 2023 Hawken field hockey team picked up their first win last night, defeating Western Reserve Academy by a score of 3-0.
"While our first two games may not have notched wins, our improvement from our first to second game was immeasurable," said Head Field Hockey Coach Cassie Bucceri '09. The hard work of the team led the Hawks to their first win on Wednesday evening.
During Saturday's matchup against Pine Richland, the team held one of the top Pennsylvania teams to 1-0 going into the fourth quarter.
"Our team consists of seasoned field hockey players and new players in either high school athletics or field hockey," Bucceri stated. "While some would say this year is a rebuilding year, I like to say we are building off what we have and the success we have built over the last few years." With such a young team this season, the field hockey program is lucky to be led by great upperclassmen who have the experience and knowledge to continue to build the program throughout this season and beyond.
"We will continue to play Hawken field hockey and lead with hard work and the desire to compete against anyone," Bucceri concluded.
This weekend the team will host Ottawa Hills and Maumee Valley in Walton Stadium at 1:00 pm and 3:30 pm, respectively. Come out and support our Hawks!
