Bio

Brian DeMell left a notable impact on the boys swimming program during his time at Hawken. An Old Board Award winner, DeMell was a 200 individual medley state champion, medley relay state champion, and state runner-up in the 100 breaststroke. In four years of varsity swimming, his teams finished 4th, 5th, 7th, and 6th at the state meet. After graduating from Hawken, he continued his swimming career at The United States Naval Academy, where in 2004 he was named 1st Team All-Patriot League. Brian swam breaststroke for the Midshipmen 2004 League Championship medley relay.

Brian is currently a commander in the United States Navy and is based in Jacksonville, FL, where he lives with his wife Lindsey.

Commander DeMell received a master’s degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, is a 2020 graduate of the Maritime Advanced Warfighting School, and is pursuing a master’s degree in Systems Analysis from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. His decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, and various service and unit awards.
